The Hovey Group of companies was established in 1988 by best friends and brother in laws John Hovey and Syd Wright starting out under the banner of S&J Excavations. They began the business with one kato excavator and a Mack R600 Prime mover, Syd’s pride and joy. Syd being the mechanic and John working the machinery. With the support from the farmers and other local contractors in the Brunswick and Bunbury areas, It wasn’t long before S & J Excavations gained a knowledgeable and trusted reputation in the excavating industry. Now with the purchase of a second excavator and loader the company’s Brunswick yard was getting too small, and with the brothers looking to the future and the idea of supplying the local community and industries with Premix concrete. It was time to move. With the rapid growth of Australind, the brothers felt that this will be the new location of S&J Excavations and its new sister company Australind Premix. Tragically in December 1993 Syd died in a car accident on the Australind Bypass at a time when the business was growing in everyway.

In 1994 John Hovey with the help of his brother Brian began to get Australind Premix up and supplying both premixed concrete and concrete products to Bunbury and the South West. Growing from 3 cement trucks to 13 cement trucks the business is able to support anything from a small garden shed slab to large commercial pores like the Silos Apartments in Bunbury.

2005 Saw the beginning of a partnership between three friends Mike Low, John Hovey and Bill Wright, and with this friendship came the birth of MJB Industries. Mike being S&J Excavations project manager at the time, saw no reason why the production of reinforced concrete pipes, Box culverts and liners could not be manufactured right here in the South West. Bill being at the forfront of the pipe plant manufacturing industry of Australia, and is seen as somewhat of an expert in his field, having built more than 5 other concrete pipe manufacturing plants around  Australia, and having over 20 years experience in concrete and mould designs nothing was going to stop this adventure. With John supplying the location and the shed passing through shire it was all go.        

The family owned businesses continue to grow rapidly through their ability to service the industrial, commercial and domestic industries. Through the relationship between Australind Premix, S&J Excavations and MJB Industries we are able to offer clients a complete solution by providing a civil engineering & excavation service coupled with the supply & lay of pre-mixed concrete and concrete products.
